Château
LA FLEUR

Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

One of the finest Saint-Émilion Grands Crus and located on a terroir of indisputably high quality close to its own vineyards: those were the attributes that attracted Dassault Wine Estates when it bought the Château La Fleur estate in 2002.

In a constant pursuit of excellence, the vineyard was enlarged in 2016 after several adjacent vine plots with very similar terroirs were acquired. The property today covers 22 hectares (55 acres) of vines, the average age of which is 33 years.

The wines of Château La Fleur display all the richness of the Saint-Emilion appellation. They are produced from grapes grown at the northern edge of the Saint-Emilion slope on terroirs that combine clay-limestone with clay over a limestone base. With a south/south-west exposure, the vines enjoy generous sunshine, which favours the full expression of Merlot grown in clay-type soil.

Showing depth, bright character and silky smoothness, the wines of Château La Fleur offer superb enjoyment in their first years. Their ageing in bottle enhances their delicate, aromatic character.

The Second de La Fleur, the Second Wine, reveals an array of fresh, expressive aromatics. Produced from the vineyard’s youngest plots, this wine provides an excellent introduction to the wines grown at Château La Fleur.

The vine-growing practices and methods have been enhanced to convey the full potential of Château La Fleur. This has resulted in ever-greater and ever-more refined quality that has been consistently acknowledged within the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru landscape.

Among the vine-growing adjustments carried out over these last years and in keeping with the other Dassault estates, the teams have implemented a programme of sustainable vine-growing practices, such as the growing of cover crops in the rows, which are seeded with legumes and grasses, and the use of vegetal cover crops as green fertiliser. Inspired by agroecology, this culminated in the awarding of the HEV Level 3 seal in 2016 and the Bee Friendly label in 2021.

Château La Fleur has also been equipped with high-performing production facilities. This includes a vat room enabling plot by plot vinifications in temperature-controlled concrete vats and also a barrel cellar built in brick, a natural material that regulates temperature and is ideal for the wine’s ageing. This ageing process is carried out in foudres, barriques or amphoras and results in wines that display a purity that enhances their aromatic intensity.
