Some Bordeaux stories are shaped as much by intuition as by destiny. That of Château Dassault, in Saint-Émilion, is a perfect illustration. Seventy years after its acquisition, the estate still embodies the elegance of a bold wager, born from the meeting of industry and the vine.

In the 1950s, Marcel Dassault, a leading figure in French aeronautics, traveled through the Bordeaux region with his clients. After each factory visit came the same desire: to discover a great growth. He soon understood that wine, beyond pleasure, is a language—an art of hospitality. He needed a château.
Legend has it that he once visited a property without even stepping inside. A glance at the vines, an instinctive appreciation of the terroir, and the decision was made on the spot. A gesture in keeping with the man: swift, assured, almost visionary.
Seventy years on, the estate stands as a firmly rooted presence in Saint-Émilion. Driven by a constant pursuit of excellence, it has gradually established itself among the Grands Crus Classés of the appellation. Here, fidelity to terroir is no empty phrase: it is expressed through meticulous care of the vines, a deep respect for the balance of clay-limestone soils, and a commitment to Merlot, the signature grape of the Right Bank.
This quest is evident in recent vintages, notably 2019 and 2023, presented as milestones in an evolving style. The wines show greater precision and depth, while asserting a freshness and purity that subtly redefine the classicism of Saint-Émilion.
Since 2022, Château Dassault has entered a new phase with the creation of a state-of-the-art winery. Conceived as a tool in service of the fruit, it supports a more parcel-based understanding of the vineyard and enables vinification of remarkable finesse. “Celebrating these 70 years is about affirming continuity: evolving our wines with precision, without ever losing sight of what matters most,” says Valérie Befve, CEO.

Today, the estate marks its 70th anniversary with a sense of earned serenity. Recent vintages reflect a renewed style: greater depth, controlled freshness, and an aromatic purity that restores clarity to Saint-Émilion. The fruit expresses itself with precision, textures gain definition, and oak recedes in favor of the wine itself.
As the highlight of this anniversary, a limited-edition magnum of the 2023 vintage seals the meeting of wine and art. Adorned with a new label designed by a contemporary artist, it embodies this renewal—a dialogue between heritage and modernity, where the creative gesture extends that of the vine.
